Dr Mary Going recently completed her PhD at the University of Sheffield with her thesis titled ‘The Jewish Other: Christian Constructions and Literary Representations (1790-1830) She is currently working as a Research Associate at the University of Sheffield with Dr Maisha Wester, exploring the way that Gothic and Horror influence narratives of race. She is was previously co-organiser of Sheffield Gothic with Dr Lauren Nixon, and is the current Web Officer for the International Gothic Association. She is also co-founder of the Gothic Bible project which hosted a ‘Buffy and the Bible’ conference in 2019 – complete with an evening Buffy singalong taking place in a deconsecrated church. Mary is particularly interested in the intersection of religion and the Gothic, but she is also interested in exploring all aspects of the Gothic across a range of biblical, historical, and contemporary texts, and has presented work on a range of topics from the Gothic, vampires, and witches, to film and television. 

Standing against the vampires, the demons, and the forces of darkness, Mary remains passionate about all things related to vampires, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and Supernatural
